Behavior Management

Classroom Management Plan

Art

Mrs. Hershey

Classroom Setting: art education

Student Responsibilities:

  • Be respectful (to adults, to other students, and to everyone’s property)
  • Be responsible (bring your work, do your work, hand in your work)
  • Be ready to begin – at the beginning of class
  • Have a good attitude – give your best effort!
  • Be safe – use all materials appropriately and safely

These rules were chosen because they are stated in a positive manner and are aligned with the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) plan which our school has adopted. The rules are stated clearly so that students are able to understand them, which will help class to run smoothly. There are five rules which make it easy for the students to remember and follow. The rules are also important for the learning environment and safety for the students. The rules are posted in the front of the room and are visible to all students. At the beginning of the year, each class discussed what these rules look like in the art room and agreed upon them in the social contract.

Rewards:

Each class has discussed and agreed upon rewards that they feel are worthwhile of their efforts. Some rewards are immediate (such as music, mid-class break) while other rewards are earned over time.

Consequences:

Each class has also discussed consequences that they feel are fair. The consequences differ for each class but include non-verbal/verbal warnings, seat change, time out, write a letter to Mrs. Hershey, lose privileges to certain materials, meeting with teacher, parent contact, office referral.

Procedures:

Beginning of Class

  • Enter classroom and sit quietly
  • Place books on shelf under your stool
  • Complete Sketchbook Assignment

Current Project

  • Stay in seats, unless you are getting materials
  • Raise hand for help
  • Talk quietly at tables

End of Class

  • Clean-up task chart

**Everyone helps with clean-up

  • Once your area is cleaned-up, you should be sitting in your seat waiting quietly to be dismissed

Arrival/Dismissal: Students will enter the room quietly. When entering, they will pick up their sketchbooks from the center table, go directly to their assigned seat, and complete the Sketchbook Assignment for the day. They will have 5 minutes to complete this. When leaving the art room, students will wait in their seats until the bell rings for dismissal.

Talking: There is no talking during instructional time. Students may talk with their tablemates during studio time.

Restroom/Water Breaks: Students can earn the opportunity to take a restroom/water break in the middle of the class period. If students do not follow the expectations agreed upon in the social contract, they can lose the privilege. If there is an emergency, students may go with the hall pass.

Clean-up: Students are responsible for cleaning up their entire work area in the time allotted by the teacher.

Drills: When alarm is sounded the students will stop the activity and wait for the teacher to call their table to line up at the door and exit following the emergency plan. Students are to remain quiet and calm during the different drills.

  • Fire: Will exit out art hall entrance in a single file line, quietly go to the grass area, and wait for attendance check

  • Intruder: Students will gather all materials and go to the front closet. The door will be locked and lights will be turned off.

  • Earthquake/Tornado: Students will line up correctly, go out to the art hall and assume the correct position (on floor with hands over head).
