Community Projects

Dover Square Project

The Engineering Technology teacher and I worked together to complete a community project for the Dover Borough.  Together, we facilitated a metal eagle sculpture, designed and manufactured by our 7th and 8th grade students, which will be permanently displayed in the town square.  We are also working closely with the Career and Technology department in the high school, whose students will build the flower box and benches that will be the base of our sculpture.  This project has been an incredible interdisciplinary experience which has crossed both subject and grade levels and will be proudly displayed in the Dover community for year to come.

Empty Bowls

The Dover community was invited to join us for an Empty Bowls event, which was held last spring.  Attendees were able to choose from 600+ bowls, handcrafted by Dover students and faculty.  Students in grades 6-7 and 9-12, along with faculty members, participated in their building’s art room to construct the bowls for the district event.

Pendants, handmade by the district’s kindergarten through 5th grade students, were also available to purchase.  A free-will offering was collected for a meal consisting of soup and bread.  More than $4,000 in proceeds from the evening benefited the Food Pantry at New Hope Ministries.
